short respite

It has been a long day + starting with the “all over the city” ride in the airport shuttle in Melbourne. Only had a slight delay at Immigration explaining why my visa and passport did not match. Much less time lost there than I lost on Friday!

Our adventure continued in Singapore when we arrived a few minutes late and the sky bridge refused to mate with the plane leaving us all standing and stewing for 15 minutes before making our escape from Quantas. Still my favourite airline in terms of goodies, nibbles and hot chocolate but those 15 minutes meant that we had to go from one end of T1 to the other end of T2 – not an inconsiderable distance when toting a heavy backpack or messenger bag. We made it just as boarding started.

George had put us on the standby list for upgrade, sacrificing his miles for our comfort on the Singapore to Frankfurt leg with Lufthansa. It turned out they had two seats and we didn’t care if we sat together or not.

Pin number? Huh? They wanted his account number and pin number. Of course this was the time that cell phone issues kicked in. The nice lady finally looked him up manually and found the information listed in his account, including this specific flight and our names. Sign that the points were taken off manually? Give me a pen!

Boarding at the last minute really is not that much hassle in business class. This is a long, long flight – more than 11 hours with the ability to sleep stretched out much more important to me than any cuisine, alcohol or fuzzy socks.

Our train connection clicked and we were home shortly after 0700.

Miriam is now catching up with friends, I have already done my CPR recert and am headed to JAG in a few minutes.

It is raining and, not surprisingly, I am just a bit tired…..
